Who we are

On October 8th 2023, Adaptive Maui, a local company that promotes accessibility through adaptive recreation, got together with other members of the community including Kelea Foundation, to begin caring for and advocating for victims of the wildfires living with disabilities.

Support for Fire Survivors:

From day two, we recognized that many people lost their mobility and health management devices, and would need support replacing things like wheelchairs, walkers, bath chairs and other durable medical equipment. We started by mobilizing resources in our own community; collaborating with other small loan closets and community members to organize and centralize equipment.

From there we received support from Oahu and the outer islands, who immediately responded to the call to action and sent over new and used equipment to help us meet dire needs. To date we have received over 50 pallets of donated items and served over 250 families.

Our Goals:

  • The goal of this site is to create a centralized system to distribute this donated equipment to those in need. With each person’s needs being so unique, we knew that a “one size fits all” approach would never work. For this reason, we focused on organizing equipment in a user-friendly format so that individuals can find and request exactly what they need.

  • We will continue to collaborate and find solutions to some of the biggest challenges that face those living with disabilities in Maui County.

Our Values:

  • Focus on the most vulnerable - Leave no one behind.

  • Community-Led Action

  • Collaboration with agencies, organizations and individuals
