The Medical Loan Closet in Maui serves as a vital resource for the community by offering medical equipment and supplies to those in need, often at no cost. This guide provides essential information for those looking to support the Medical Loan Closet through donations, ensuring that all contributions are valuable and in line with the needs of the organization and the community.
Types of Donations Accepted
The Medical Loan Closet is happy to accept a wide range of medical equipment and supplies, provided they are in good, usable condition.
Below are commonly accepted items:
Durable Medical Equipment
Wheelchairs (manual and transport)
Walkers and Rollators (standard and seated models)
Canes (standard and quad canes)
Crutches
Scooters and Power Chairs (must be in working condition, with a good battery)
Shower Chairs, Benches, and Stools
Commodes and Toilet Risers
Hospital Beds and Bed Rails
Overbed Tables
Transfer Boards and Lifts
Hoyer Lifts and Slings
Mobility Aids and Accessories
Wheelchair Cushions and Backs
Wheelchair Footrests and Accessories
Walker Baskets and Trays
Crutch Tips and Arm Pads
Personal Care Items
Bed Pads and Mattress Protectors (new and unused only)
Adult Diapers and Incontinence Supplies (new and unopened)
Wound Care Supplies (unopened and within expiration date)
Donation Requirements & Guidelines
To ensure the safety and usefulness of donated items, the following guidelines must be followed:
Condition: All equipment should be clean, fully functional, and free of damage or excessive wear. Items should not require extensive repairs or cleaning.
Cleanliness: Please thoroughly clean and sanitize all equipment before donating.
Expiration Dates: Any consumable supplies (e.g., wound care supplies, hygiene products) must not be expired.
Assembly: Items that require assembly should be fully assembled or come with easy-to-follow instructions.
Items Not Accepted
We are not able to accept the following items due to safety, storage limitations, or regulatory restrictions:
Used or opened medications or prescription items
Needles, syringes, or lancets
Oxygen tanks and concentrators
Used mattresses or mattress overlays
CPAP machines and accessories (unless unopened and unused)
Equipment that has been recalled or is damaged beyond repair

A: We prefer items in good working condition, but please call us to discuss specific items that may need minor repairs.
Q: Can you pick up large equipment?
A: Yes, we offer a pickup service for large items within a certain radius. Please call to schedule a pickup.

A: If we are unable to accept your item, we may be able to refer you to other organizations or services that can.

Tax Deductibility & Documentation
The Medical Loan Closet is a program under Kelea Foundation, a registered non-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Upon request, a donation receipt can be provided for tax purposes. Please keep this receipt for your records.
